I bought The Collected Short Stories of Louis L’Amour, Volume 1: Frontier Stories a couple of weeks ago and am reading one of the short stories when time allows.
At the time of this posting I am about halfway through with the book. It consists of 35 frontier tales.
First off, let me say that I am a huge fan of Louis L’Amour. The man is brilliant in my opinion. That being said, some of the stories up to this point have been duds. But last night I read one of the best stories.
The title is One Night Stand. It is story #14. It’s about an out of work actor, who is paid $1000 to impersonate Wild Bill Hickok. It is the only way of saving a man from getting killed.
For me, this story alone was worth the price of the book. I purchased it when it was on sale for $1.99. It’s priced higher now, but if you are a Louis L’Amour fan, I think this book is worth it. This isn’t one of the best books I’ve read by the man, but it is pretty good.
